SAPS - Heritage Roof Slating and Tiling Level 3 available for October 2024 start at CoRE in Hereford

The Centre of Roofing Excellence (CoRE) in Hereford has been awarded CITB funding to run another specialist applied-skills programmes (SAP) in Roofing Occupations Level 3 Heritage Roof Slating & Tiling.

The Heritage Roof slating and Tiling course is a 30 day course that is delivered over a 12 month period. The Programme is designed to provide practical skills, theoretical knowledge and is a recognised qualification to craftspeople who are preparing to specialise in heritage roof slating and tiling. Some of the areas covered in the course are:

· Installing double-lap roof tiles to curved and swept roof details

· Fabricating and installing leadwork to complex details

· Installing natural roof slate to mitred and vertical roof details

· Installing natural roof slate to curved and swept roofs

· Installing plain tile roof coverings

· Installing random natural roof slates with diminishing margins

· Installing regular natural roof slate to standard roof details

· Installing single lap roof tiles to fixed gauge

· Repairing heritage roof coverings

· Repairing and maintaining heritage roof coverings

· Replacing heritage roof coverings

· Pricing, estimating and quantifying heritage roof coverings

· Visits to live suitable sites

Travel to train - CITB will fund 80% of accommodation costs for apprentices of grant eligible employers who attend colleges or training providers where overnight stays and travel to and from a hotel to a place of training, are required. Employers can also claim excess costs for apprentice travel where the cost exceeds £20 per week.
