UK Construction Materials Prices 2023

The Construction Products Association has updated its UK construction materials prices as of 14 September 2023. Although construction materials prices fell by 4.0 per cent overall in the year to July, some material costs are still rising at double-digit rates. The overall impact on contractors will therefore critically depend on the product-mixes they primarily use.

The Construction Products Association has updated its UK construction materials prices as of 14 September 2023. Whilst the material prices annual inflation rate is now dropping, prices remain at a historic high compared to pre-pandemic, with the cost of construction materials 41.1 per cent higher in July 2023 than January 2020. Although construction materials prices fell by 4.0 per cent overall in the year to July, some material costs are still rising at double-digit rates. The overall impact on contractors will therefore critically depend on the product-mixes they primarily use. For example, the market witnessed falls in fabricated structural steel and rebar, plus timber-related products such as imported softwood, plywood and particle board. Conversely, the fastest price rises were in doors and windows, ready-mixed concrete, insulation, kitchen furniture and electric water heaters.
