Prison leavers project

NFRC’s Head of Careers Ruth Scarrott is working with the Department of Work and Pensions to explore how roofing companies could access the talent pool of ex-offenders. Get in touch if you are interested in offering an opportunity.

A message from Ruth Scarrott, NFRC's Head of Careers On 27 April, I met with over 20 work coaches who are based in prisons across England, Scotland and Wales. We are keen to explore how the roofing industry can access the talent pool of ex-offenders, linking them with any Members who want to offer an opportunity. This was followed by a visit to North Sea Camp in Lincolnshire. The purpose of this visit is to gain insight into the employability work done within a CAT D Prison to understand the support prisoners receive in North Sea Camp. This will include meeting mentors, the Prison Employment Lead, Head of Reducing Re-Offending, Industries Manager, Business Community Manager, ID and Banking Administrator (PEL Support). This meeting showcased how employers can offer prison leaver opportunities for work experience and work trials and what the MOJ can permit dependant on licences.
