NAW 2025-NFRC and Juniper Training

George, an apprentice with Juniper Training, started his apprenticeship when he was 26 years old. With ambitions of becoming a supervisor, he says it’s never too late to take the next step.

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2025, NFRC invited training providers to spotlight their apprentices, share their story, and tell us more about the importance of apprenticeships and what they have to offer. In this case study, we speak to Juniper Training and find out what they offer, and the benefits of an apprenticeship, and hear from George about his roofing journey so far. Download the case study here.

What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?

  • Skills Development: Apprenticeships provide hands-on, practical training alongside formal qualifications, equipping apprentices with industry-relevant skills that enhance their employability.
  • Career Opportunities: Apprenticeships offer a clear pathway into a chosen career, often with opportunities for progression and long-term employment.
  • Earning While Learning: Apprentices earn a salary while gaining valuable experience, helping them achieve financial independence and reducing the need for student loans.
  • Confidence and Professionalism: Working in real-world environments helps apprentices build confidence, professionalism, and workplace readiness.
  • Networking: Apprenticeships enable individuals to develop professional relationships and connections within their industry, which can support future career growth.
  • Closing Skills Gaps: Apprenticeships help businesses address specific skills shortages by training individuals in areas crucial to their operations.
  • Tailored Talent Pipelines: Employers can shape apprentices’ training to meet the unique needs of their organisation, ensuring they develop the exact skills required.
  • Increased Productivity: Apprentices often bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm, boosting overall team productivity and morale.
  • Loyalty and Retention: Investing in apprenticeships fosters loyalty, with many apprentices choosing to stay with their employer long-term.
  • Cost-Effective Recruitment: Apprenticeships offer a cost-efficient way to recruit and develop talent, often supported by government funding or incentives.

Financial and job security are something that have worried me before, however now approaching 30 years old I am much more confident in my future with the path I have taken.
