Call for Employers for regional Careers Fairs the Skills Subgroup is piloting

The skills group of the Solar Taskforce has identified that in order of competing with other industries and sectors, and securing the numbers to deliver the 70GW, the sector must invest new efforts to improve its visibility to students and young people. To achieve this, Solar Taskforce has decided to launch a number of regional careers fairs, which will take place in various colleges across the country. Employers within the sector are invited to participate and show their support, and are presented with a great opportunity to meet young people who may be interested in a career the sector. Recruitment is a long process, and Solar Taskforce say "We are looking for a wide range of employers from across the value chain, from developers and grid to designers, EPC contractors and maintainers. Our target value chain includes manufacturers and associated trades, such as planning, legal and finance, who we hope can support these events." The fairs will be held in the first half of 2024 across four different colleges. Employers are welcome to support more than one event: London and the South-East - South Thames College – 27th February 2024. Midlands and Eastern England - Moulton College, Northamptonshire – 4th March 2024 North - Harrogate College, Yorkshire – 5th March 2024, South-West and Southern - Exeter College, Devon – 19th March 2024. Each college will take full responsibility for the planning and organisation of the event, and have been assessed to ensure they are capable of hosting such an event. It is encouraged for employers to bring any equipment that will allow for demonstrations and "have-a-go" presentations. This is a great marketing opportunity with an expected 500 - 1,200 people attending each day, and hopes of attracting local media and politicians. There is also opportunity for the event to be rolled out annually, with colleges already expressing a keen interest to speak and engage with employers within the sector. For those interested or wanting to find out more please email Mark Wakeford, the chair of the Skills Subgroup of the Solar Taskforce, so as he can shortlist companies and pass details onto the colleges, who will take it from there.
