British Standards Update

NFRC is currently contributing to updates to several British Standards that are important for the flat roofing industry. Read more about the current progress.

NFRC is contributing to updates to several important British Standards to bring them into line with current best practice and developments within the industry. NFRC and its Members have submitted comments to support updates to BS 6229 Flat roofs with continuously supported flexible waterproof coverings – Code of Practice. It has been five years since the 2018 version of the standard was published and the industry has moved quickly in terms of legislation and innovation. The BSI B/546 - Flexible sheets for waterproofing and water vapour control committee, which is chaired by NFRC Head of Technical & Training Bob Richardson and oversees the development of BS6229, has submitted comments directly to the British Standards Institution (BSI) to support the amendments.

NFRC will also be contributing to updates to BS 8000-4 Workmanship on building sites – Code of Practice for Waterproofing, and BS 8217 Reinforced bitumen membranes for roofing – Code of Practice. Updates to these three standards are vital for the flat roofing industry as it continues to evolve and innovate in an ever-changing built environment.

We will endeavour to update Members regularly, particularly when the standards are ready for public comment.
