The Building Safety Act became law in April 2022 and forms the basis of the new Building Safety Regime in the industry. The secondary legislation being developed means that requirements and accountabilities are evolving. Build UK has published a guide to ensure firms in the construction industry are aware of their responsibilities. The Building Safety Act applies to all buildings, with further requirements for higher risk buildings (HBRs), so it is important that everyone involved in the construction and management of buildings is aware of how it impacts them.
The Build UK guide is updated regularly to ensure it is always up to date and it includes sections on the following: New Bodies – the introduction of the Building Safety Regulator, National Regulator for Construction Products and the New Homes Ombudsman. New Responsibilities – new requirements around accountable persons, duty holders and owners, landlords and developers. New Systems – including the new construction Gateways, the Golden Thread of Information and mandatory and voluntary occurrence reporting. Existing Legislation – reforms to pre-existing legislation including Approved Document B and the Fire Safety Order. Other Activities – the related developments outside the Building Safety Act, such as the cladding remediation programmes. To find out more read the full Build UK guide.
